Commenting on the contract award, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Elf said:

“The Clermont award further strengthens our base of long term, multi-year, multi-rig contract with Tier 1 clients that, following recent announcements, now include South 32, Evolution Mining, and Anglo American,” Mr Elf stated.

“The award also strengthens our position within the overall Queensland drilling market and assists in maintaining an appropriate commodities and drilling market mix.”

Adertisement

Glencore manages operations at Clermont on behalf of a joint venture between Glencore and Sumitomo Corporation (25.05% each), Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd (31.4%), J-Power Australia Pty Ltd (15%) and J.C.D. Australia Pty Ltd (3.5%).

Clermont is a large scale open-cut operation, located approximately 12 kilometres from the town of Clermont in central Queensland. Commenced in 2010, the operation now produces approximately 12 million metric tonnes of high energy thermal coal with relatively low ash and sulphur using a truck and shovel method.
