Heavy rare earths developer Northern Minerals Limited has announced the commencement of a 1,800 metre RC drilling campaign at Browns Range, as it finalises studies towards a Final Investment Decision in mid-Q1 2017.
Northern Minerals said the drilling campaign is focused on stage one pit resource definition, groundwater monitoring bores and initial assessment of the high priority exploration target, Banshee South.
“The RC drilling campaign has three main focuses: Firstly, drilling will occur within the central, western and eastern Gambit first stage open pits, in areas where shallow infill drilling is required,” the company told the ASX.
“Secondly, the Company will drill eight groundwater monitoring bores, which will be used for environmental monitoring during the Pilot Plant phase, and finally, the Company will take the opportunity to complete a first-pass drill test of a high priority exploration target at Banshee South.”
The Browns Range Project has a number of deposits and prospects containing high value dysprosium and other heavy rate earths, hosted in xenotime mineralisation.
The Project’s xenotime mineralisation has facilitated the development of a tow stage process flowsheet, consisting of a beneficiation and hydrometallurgical plant, to produce a high value, high purity dysprosium rich product.
