Baralaba Coal names new CEO

The Baralaba Coal Company announced the appointment of Mr Brett Garland to the position of Chief Executive Officer, effective 30 January 2017.

According to the company, Mr Garland will oversee the restart operations at the Baralaba North Mine, located approximately 5km north of the township of Baralaba.

Mr Garland is Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Institute of Engineers Australia, Mine Managers Association of Australia, Society of Mining (Metallurgy & Exploration) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Garland – who is also the Chairman of the Board of the Queensland Mines Rescue Services – has a 30+ years experience in the Australian coal mining industry, and possesses significant experience in Queensland open-cut coal mining operations.

Recently, he has been a contract General Manager with Delta SBD where he focused on the restart of operations at an underground coal mine in NSW.

Prior to this, Mr Garland spent 5 years at Caledon Coal, the last two of which in the capacity of CEO/Managing Director.

Before his employment with Caledon, he spent 6 years in senior roles with New Hope Coal and Macarthur Coal.

According to the company’s ASX release, Mr Garland will be paid a base salary of $400,000 excluding superannuation.
