Speaking in front of the 2000 delegates from over 30 countries, along with some of the world’s largest mining companies, including Rio Tinto, MMG and BHP Billiton, Mr Koutsantonis said SA provided the perfect business environment for investors from the mining and resources sector.

“We want people and industries across the globe to identify South Australia as a place where people and business can thrive and where a prosperous resource sector provides opportunities to participate through the mining value-chain from discovery to development,” Mr Koutsantonis told the conference.

“Let there be no mistake that our Government is firmly behind growing opportunities across the resource industry, highlighted by our economic priority to ‘unlock the full potential of South Australia’s resources, energy and renewable assets. Our message to the industry is South Australia is open for business.”

Mr Koutsantonis told attendees at IMARC that South Australia’s mining, oil and gas producers have more than quadrupled mineral and petroleum production from $1.6 billion to $7 billion, achieved record exports, now accounting for 39% of South Australia’s merchandise exports and more than doubled employment across the sector to more than 15,300 in the last decade alone.

IMARC is presented and supported by Australia’s three key industry mining associations: The Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AUSIMM), Austmine (the association representing the METS industry) and the Mineral Council of Australia (MCA).
