According to the company’s ASX announcement, work is set to begin in July 2015 and the contract has an option for one more year extension.

“Downer has a strong track record of providing mining services to BMA and helping it to drive efficiencies across its operations,” said Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn.

“We look forward to extending our working relationship and continuing to deliver efficient solutions for the Blackwater coal mine.”

Adertisement

BMA suspended operations at its Blackwater coal mine in March following a truck accident in which a worker lost his life.

The accident was reportedly the second in one month at the Queensland mine.

BMA operates seven Bowen Basin mines – Goonyella Riverside, Broadmeadow, Daunia, Peak Downs, Saraji, Crinum and , Blackwater and Caval Ridge – and the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay.
