Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Energy Estate to collaborate on the potential for 24/7 delivery of green hydrogen, e-fuels, and e-chemicals across Energy Estate’s portfolio of over 30GW of large-scale decarbonisation projects.

In a statement, Abergeldie said incorporating green hydrogen production and storage will enable the delivery of hydrogen to ammonia, e-fuel, and other hydrogen derivative production plants around-the-clock and assist balance intermittent renewable energy supplies. The parties will cooperate as part of the partnership to promote fresh investment in the green hydrogen sector in NSW and other Australian states.

The Hunter Hydrogen Network, created by Energy Estate and its partner Eurus Energy, is the first comprehensive green hydrogen and storage project to move forward. This project would produce 1.6 GW of hydrogen in the Hunter Valley and deliver it to the Port of Newcastle and other key Hunter destinations via a shared, dedicated hydrogen pipeline.

Energy Estate Co-founder Simon Currie said the next degree of sophistication in delivering low-cost hydrogen is strategically optimised hydrogen generation and storage. Currie added that Energy Estate’s objective is to establish hydrogen corridors to produce, store, and transfer hydrogen as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible to encourage local and export markets for green hydrogen and derivative products.

“We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with an Australian-owned business with a storage technology critical to the advancement of the hydrogen economy. This collaboration that will be important in informing the continued development of our portfolio of hydrogen projects” said Simone O’Sullivan, director of decarbonisation at Energy Estate,” Currie stated.

Abergeldie Founder and Executive Chairman Mick Boyle said Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure is excited to work with Energy Estate on green hydrogen projects. Abergeldie founded Ardent Underground in 2019 with the intent of repurposing our world-leading blind boring technology to provide safe, cost-effective, large-scale, and reproducible hydrogen storage, according to Boyle.

“We have developed a unique hydrogen storage technology and are fully supported by Abergeldie’s proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure. Locally, we are already seeing significant opportunities for the optimisation of large-scale renewal hydrogen production and storage projects. Ardent Underground is looking forward to working with the Energy Estate and Abergeldie collaboration to accelerate the transition to green hydrogen,” Ardent Underground General Manager David Bentley stated.
