Rio Tinto has chosen CIMIC Group‘s CPB Contractors to provide primary infrastructure bulk earthworks for the Western Range iron-ore mine in Western Australia‘s Pilbara region.
In a statement, CIMIC Group said about $250 million in revenue would be generated by the contract for CPB Contractors.
The project includes the construction of structural earthworks to enable the installation of additional materials handling infrastructure, hence continuing production at the Paraburdoo Central Facilities.
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said CIMIC Group firms offer a full range of resources-related services to our clients. Santamaria stated that CIMIC Group has decades of experience in the Pilbara. Santamaria added that their team would collaborate closely with Rio Tinto to ensure that the project is completed on time and under budget.
“As we mobilise to deliver this project, we’ll be looking to create opportunities for local suppliers and Indigenous businesses. Our teams have demonstrated their disciplined approach to delivery on other Pilbara resources projects and are pleased to apply their expertise to support Rio Tinto’s development of the new Western Range mine,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears stated.
Work will begin in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2024.
