Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston has invited industry representatives to nominate regions for consideration in the 2023 petroleum exploration acreage release in Western Australia (WA).

The annual acreage release is a key component of the WA Government‘s policy for supporting petroleum exploration, and industry is invited to participate.

“The petroleum sector remains a major contributor to Western Australia’s economic success, achieving record production of oil and gas valued at $52 billion in 2021-22,” Minister Johnston said.

According to Minister Johnston, the State Government will continue encouraging investment in the petroleum exploration sector to uncover the next significant discovery.

Adertisement

“We are calling for industry to get involved and help shape the future of WA’s petroleum sector,” Minister Johnston added.

Submissions for this year’s release will be evaluated and considered by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation, and Safety. While submitting an area does not ensure inclusion, it may be considered for future release.

The nominee will be expected to submit a bid if a nominated area is released.

The nomination period for the 2023 acreage release has begun and will end on 13 March 2023.
