On Monday, 20 March, Illawarra-born innovation in clean energy and renewables will be exhibited at the Illawarra Clean Energy Expo at the Australian Parliament House.

The Illawarra Clean Energy Expo will highlight the capabilities of companies and organisations in the Illawarra region that are leading the clean energy transition by providing high-quality, long-term jobs and training for the clean energy industry.

On Friday, 17 March, the delegation leaders met at Sicona, a Wollongong-based developer of next-generation battery technology that enables electric-mobility devices and renewable energy storage. Sicona is commercialising technologies created and refined at the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials at the University of Wollongong (UOW).

Member for Cunningham Alison Byrnes stated that the expo would increase awareness of the wealth of knowledge available in Illawarra.

“Businesses across the Illawarra are leading the way in developing scalable, real-world solutions in clean energy and renewables. This expo will showcase this capability to the nation and open conversations that have the potential to lead to real advances in the industry,” Byrnes said.

UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Patricia M. Davidson stated that energy transition has regional relevance for Illawarra, with the region’s traits of creativity and innovation helping to make it an economic powerhouse.

“The University of Wollongong is at the heart of this clean energy revolution. UOW is well placed to provide evidence-based advice to inform policy and industry investment across Australia that considers social, economic and technical issues,” Professor Davidson said.

Professor Davidson claimed that the UOW is at the epicentre of the clean energy revolution. According to Professor Davidson, UOW is well-positioned to deliver evidence-based advice to inform policy and business investment across Australia that considers social, economic, and technological issues.

Exhibitors in Canberra will provide insight into the work already going on at UOW and help the Illawarra transition to a low-carbon future.
