The Australian Government has partnered with the NRMA to build 117 fast EV charging sites on Australian national highways.

The Federal Government will provide $39.3 million in funding to establish 117 fast EV charging sites to better link towns and cities as part of the Driving the Nation Fund and will ensure there is a fast charger every 150 km on national roads.

The national charging site map was published, emphasising new locations to be supplied in every state and territory, including regional and distant regions.

According to the Federal Government, EVs are cleaner and less expensive to operate, but for far too long, range anxiety has been one of the most significant barriers for Australians contemplating whether or not to purchase an EV.

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen stated that the Federal Government is aiming to improve EV infrastructure by creating a nationwide network of fast chargers.

“We’re making range anxiety a thing of the past. This project will help close the gaps and known black spots in the network and make it possible to drive from Darwin to Perth, Broken Hill to Adelaide, and from Brisbane to Tennant Creek in the NT,” Minister Bowen said.

Minister Bowen added that the nationwide rollout will assist in putting more Australians in the driver’s seat of less expensive and greener vehicles.
