Frontier Energy Limited announced that the Smart Energy Council has finished pre-certification for the Zero Carbon Certification Scheme at the Bristol Springs Renewable Energy Project.

According to Frontier, this is a significant milestone since it assures all stakeholders, including shareholders, lenders, and offtakers, that the production process will produce zero carbon hydrogen, or green hydrogen

The Bristol Springs Renewable Energy Project is one of three in Australia to receive the pre-certification.

“Frontier Energy is an advanced first mover in the Australian hydrogen industry and receiving zero carbon pre-certification is important for off takers as well as construction financing for the project. Having independent precertification of the origin and source of green hydrogen gives our stakeholders and shareholders confidence that the hydrogen produced at the Project is confirmed as 100% clean and made from 100% renewable energy,” Frontier Managing Director Sam Lee said.

The pre-certification process was based on a review of all the assumptions in the Company’s recently released Definitive Feasibility Study, and it verifies that the Bristol Springs Renewable Energy Project would create zero-carbon renewable hydrogen.

Frontier stated that obtaining pre-certification is an important step in the project’s development since it is a critical factor for offtakers as well as project funding.

The pre-certification is in line with the Australian Government‘s $38.2 million commitment to develop the Guarantee of Origin (GO) Certificate system “to track and verify emissions associated with hydrogen and other low-emission products.”

The Zero Carbon Certification Scheme pre-certification assesses all direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions involved with the generation and storage of renewable hydrogen.

“The certification of Frontier Energy Bristol Spring project is a tremendous milestone. This is an industry driven certification scheme that gives confidence to all stakeholders, including shareholders, financiers and offtakers alike that Frontier Energy will produce renewable hydrogen at the Bristol Springs Project. Leadership from industry to secure early certification ensures that we are driving and building a strong renewable hydrogen economy here in Australia. The Zero Carbon Certification Scheme is demonstrating global leadership and ensuring the quality production of renewable hydrogen. Congratulations Frontier Energy,” Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia General Manager Joanna Kay said.

Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia, a part of the Smart Energy Council, is Australia’s only industry organisation dedicated completely to renewable hydrogen and its products, derivatives, and associated technology.

“It is absolutely crucial that hydrogen projects are certified to prevent greenwashing. By awarding certification to projects that do the right thing, we can build a credible new industry based on transparency and set Australia up as a renewable hydrogen superpower,” Smart Energy Council John Grimes stated.
