The Mining and Energy Union (MEU) Northern Mining & NSW Energy District is set to hold its 26th Annual Memorial Day Service on 10 September to pay respect to lives lost to coal mining.
The event is held to remember the over 1,800 men, women, and boys who died in the Northern District Coalfields.
This year’s event follows the Centenary of the Bellbird catastrophe on 1 September. The Jim Comerford Memorial Wall honours the 21 victims of the Bellbird incident.
MEU Northern Mining & NSW Energy District President Robin Williams said the Memorial Day is a chance for unionists, mineworkers, and the community to reflect on the significant role mining plays in the District and the significant cost of worker death and injury.
