The Australian Government’s $30 million On Farm Connectivity Program (OFCP) is boosting productivity for Australia’s primary producers, with over $6.2 million in rebates already flowing to help farmers utilise agtech and connectivity solutions.
“The Albanese Government is backing our farmers and primary producers who feed millions and generate billions for our economy,” Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland said.
The program is expanding data coverage to properties, improving machinery and sensor technology reliability, and offering discounted technologies through approved suppliers.
Such technologies are aiding farmers in enhancing soil quality, nutrient levels, livestock monitoring, water efficiency, and streamlining farm logistics.
“It’s fantastic to see the On Farm Connectivity Program delivering the cutting edge tech the sector needs to stay competitive, boost sustainability and enhance farm safety,” Minister Rowland stated.
Since the program’s introduction in late October, the Business Grants Hub has received over 700 applications from equipment suppliers for the $15 million in financing offered during Round 1.
The rebate covers various technologies like external antennas, repeaters, boosters, sensors, automated tank systems, pump controllers, and animal movement tags, along with installation and training costs.
“By helping invest in new technologies, we’re powering productivity and embracing smarter, more sustainable farming practices,” Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Murray Watt said.
The Government has enlisted the Regional Tech Hub to offer free and impartial advice to primary producers, enabling them to make informed investment decisions.
The OFCP is a component of the Federal Government’s $1.1 billion Better Connectivity Plan, aimed at enhancing mobile and broadband connectivity and resilience in the country.
