HPA is the major source material for scratch-resistant artificial sapphire crystal, which is used in the next generation of smartphones as well as a growing range of high performance electronic applications.

The company’s HPA Project consists of its proposed aluminous clay (kaolin) mining operation and beneficiation plant at Meckering, Western Australia, and the proposed Malaysian HPA plant.

According to Altech’s Managing Director, Mr Iggy Tan, the Agreement with Mitsubishi is another important milestone for the Company’s HPA project.

“We are delighted to partner with one of Japan’s largest companies and a very reputable name worldwide,” said Mr Tan.

“Altech’s 4,000tpa HPA plant will position the Company not only as one of the world’s largest producers of HPA, but also as one of the world’s lowest cost producers of HPA.”

Mitsubishi Corporation is the largest general trading company in Japan.

According to the ASX Announcement by Altech, Japan accounted for 21% of global HPA demand in 2014.
