Ausgold Limited has kickstarted a high-resolution aeromagnetic survey across a 45km x 30km central zone of its 100%-owned Katanning Gold Project (KGP), situated in the Yilgam Gold Field of Western Australia.

According to the company, the survey totalling 23,413 line kilometres includes a main block to be flown at 50m lice spacing, with a more detailed area of 20m line spacing.
Ausgold expects that the new dataset will show significantly more detail than the regional magnetic, providing the company with additional structural information for identifying new prospects for testing during 2016 and beyond.
“The integration of the recent (2012) detailed aeromagnetic survey over the KGP with existing geochemical, drilling, geological and structural data gas led to an improved understanding of structural controls on the location of mineralisation,” Ausgold said in a statement to the ASX.
“Ausgold used this new and dynamic exploration model to identify multiple new gold targets at the KGP and is confident these targets represent significant exploration upside.”
The company’s Geology Manager, Miss Melanie Sutterby said the recent successful AC drilling at Detatine provided validation of the exploration model and increased Ausgold’s confidence in the direct application of detailed magnetics as potentially representing an ore-finding technique.
“The tangible success of our recent drilling programs has provided a new level of confidence in the application of exploration techniques at KGP,” she said.
“The acquisition of detailed aeromagnetic data over the area is, we believe, an effective technique in mapping prospective geology and geological structures which are likely associated with gold mineralisation. These data will be used in conjunction with our existing data and will enable us to identify new prospective targets for ongoing exploration programs.”
