According to the article on ABC, Indonesian women have become increasingly involved in agriculture and the foundations for the Australian-Indonesian women in agriculture alliance are already set, thanks to Catherine Marriott from Influential Women.

Ms Marriott spent four days in Indonesia meeting with seven groups of women involved in agriculture in East Java.

“I’ve just had a wonderful time travelling around East Java, meeting farming women’s groups and having a look through their supply chains and finding out what their strengths are, what their weaknesses are and what their hopes and dreams are, and trying to determine how we as Australian farming women can work with them to improve their business,” she said.

“Sixty per cent of Indonesia’s population are working directly in agriculture, and of that, there is a very high percentage of women. In order for us to make a difference, if I can bring Australian farming women to share knowledge with Indonesian farming women, we’re going to be able to create change.”

Adertisement

Ms Marriott also revealed that one of the seven groups of women she met in East Java will now visit Australia in order to broaden their “agricultural horizons” and learn from Australian women in agriculture.

Women in agriculture in Australia have been informed that they can now apply to visit Indonesia this June as part of the program.
