Following a public hearing held by the Austrian Mining Authority, European Lithium Limited has received new mining licenses and extensions for its Wolfsberg Lithium Project in Austria.
“The grant of these mining licenses further reinforces our belief that Wolfsberg will be the first local producer of battery grade lithium in Europe to fuel the green energy transition. The Wolfsberg Project benefits from Austria’s robust and mature mining industry that reflects many of the aims of the EU’s proposed Critical Raw Materials Act, including a fast track for critical projects like ours,” European Lithium Chairman Tony Sage said.
The Wolfsberg Project Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) mine planning and design reflected the expanded resource, and at the time of reporting, the Company identified additional mining fields extending outside existing licence areas that may be mined in the future.
Following that, the Company applied for a new mining field, Barbara, close to the existing mining field, Andreas, which has 11 mining licences. The Barbara mining field provides European Lithium with six new mining licenses. Furthermore, the area of three existing mining licences has been expanded (1 for the existing Andreas field and 2 for the newly given Barbara field).
The addition of new licences and extensions to the Wolfsberg Lithium Project brings the total number of licences to 20, nearly doubling the footprint for underground mining operations.
“The grant of new mining licenses, and license extensions, provides significant upside to mining operations in the future. We are encouraged by this successful grant as we move toward readiness of the Wolfsberg Project,” European Lithium CEO Dietrich Wanke said.
