BHP Billiton announced that Chief Commercial Officer Dean Dalla Valle will be leaving the company at the end of March 2017.
In making the announcement last week, CEO Andrew Mackenzie thanked Mr Dalla Valle for his contribution to BHP Billiton.
“Dean Dalla Valle is one of the longest serving and most respected leaders at BHP Billiton. His deep knowledge of operations, strong commercial judgement and leadership have made a major contribution to our Company over four decades,” he said.
“Most recently Dean led BHP Billiton’s response in Brazil to the Samarco dam failure, drawing upon his long experience in the mining sector and at BHP Billiton. In all of his roles with BHP Billiton, starting as an apprentice electrician at Illawarra Coal, Dean has demonstrated a commitment to safety, integrity and high performance. He will be missed.”
According to Mr Mackenzie, the Group will centralise the management of Samarco alongside its other major minerals non-operated joint ventures in the Minerals Americas portfolio.
