Coca-Cola Europacific Partners’ (CCEP) Australian operations take a step closer to its objective of utilising 100 per cent renewable energy following an agreement with Alinta Energy, which is supported by one of Western Australia’s largest wind farms.

CCEP has inked an eight-year contract to enable the company to achieve its net zero ambition for direct emissions by 2040. As part of this objective, CCEP aims to use 100 per cent renewable electricity across its operations by 2025.

In a statement, Alinta Energy stated that the contract, which goes into effect on 1 January 2023, comprises large-scale generation certificates and 13,000 MWh of renewable electricity supplied from Yandin Wind Farm, located in Western Australia.

CCEP Vice President and General Manager of Australia, Pacific, and Indonesia Peter West said the landmark deal boosts the company’s commitment to tackling climate change.

“CCEP is taking serious action to reduce our carbon footprint across our operations, and as a global business, we have set bold targets. Our partnership with Alinta Energy brings us a step closer to achieving our target of 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2025, which is one of the ways we’ll reach net zero by 2040,” West stated.

Alinta Energy’s MD and CEO Jeff Dimery welcomed the long-term agreement from CCEP Australia and its iconic brands.

“Coca-Cola Europacific Partners has been ambitious and enthusiastic about transitioning their business to renewables. It’s terrific leadership, and we congratulate them on their long-term commitment,” Dimery commented.

Alinta Energy has also made substantial progress towards its renewable goals to have 1500MW of owned and contracted renewable generation online by 2025. With 900MW of owned and contracted renewables on the books and several gigawatts of key projects in the pipeline, Alinta Energy has almost two-thirds of the generation needed to reach its target.
