Legend Mining Limited has announced that diamond drilling activities have commenced at the Octagonal prospect within the Rockford Project.
According to the company, target area A will see a diamond drill hole target interpreted extensions of the Octagonal intrusion based on seismic interpretation.
The drill hole will also extend to test a highly chargeable IP anomaly before continuing to test the top of a large audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) conductor.
Evidence from seismic data, IP and 3D AMT anomalies, structural interpretation, gravity modelling, and existing drilling data suggests the excellent potential for the mineralised Octagonal intrusion extending outside the expressed eye feature as depicted in the aeromagnetics.
Meanwhile, target area B will test a seismic feature interpreted as intrusion, associated with a conductive 2D AMT feature at depth.
Seismic modelling and structural analysis activities, along with AMT modelling and proximal diamond drilling, suggest that the Octagonal intrusion extends at depth.
All completed diamond drill holes will be subject to a suite of downhole geophysics, including electromagnetic petrophysical property measurements, with collected data to aid in direct targetting for economic sulphide accumulations as well as refinement of the existing seismic cube.
The depth of the extensive Octagonal Intrusive Complex makes it blind to surface EM below 600 m, opening up a large and prospective search space below current drilling.
Both proposed diamond drill holes have a nominal planned depth of 1,000 m to 1,500 m.
Legend Executive Chairman Mark Wilson said both the target areas have multiple data sets that support the potential for significant nickel-copper-sulphide accumulations.
“They both qualify as the most exciting diamond drill targets the team have seen at our Rockford project since Legend started in the Fraser Range in 2015. Each hole is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete,” Wilson added.
