Heather Brayford appointed Director General to WA’s Department of Fisheries

The Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO, Governor of Western Australia, in Executive Council has greenlighted the appointment of Ms Heather Brayford to the position of Director General of the Department of Fisheries.

In a media statement, Fisheries Minister Ken Baston said Ms Brayford had previously held senior roles in the Department of Fisheries, including Director, Aquatic Management and Deputy Director General from 2011.

“She brings almost 30 years of experience in fisheries management, having held a number of senior policy and management positions in the department and as the Executive Director of Fisheries in the Northern Territory,” he said.

“I look forward to working with her in ensuring our State’s aquatic resources and habitats are maintained for the benefit of present and future generations.”

Ms Brayford holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration. Her appointment will be for a period of five years.

Ms Brayford will be responsible for fisheries management programs, broader environmental management programs, aquaculture and the provision of legal, legislative drafting and governance services.
