Seven projects in the Boodarie and Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Areas (SIA) have received approval for land allocations from the Western Australian (WA) Government‘s Industrial Lands Panel.
The combined proposed capital investment of the seven businesses approved for land allocation is valued at $70 billion.
“The approval of land allocations for the Boodarie and Ashburton North SIAs will help transform these sites into globally competitive, multi-product industrial precincts,” State Development, Jobs and Trade Minister Roger Cook said.
Minister Cook stated that ammonia, green iron ore, and hydrogen are among the projects the two SIAs will deliver.
“From job creation to growing the local advanced manufacturing industry and servicing international markets, we will see the economic benefits of these land allocations and these projects flow through the WA economy over time,” Minister Cook added.
Land allocation clearance is a critical step in converting the Boodarie and Ashburton North SIA into globally competitive, multi-product industrial precincts that will assist WA’s economic diversification and job creation.
Lands Minister John Carey said Strategic Industrial Areas are an essential source of new investment for WA‘s burgeoning and increasing renewable energy industry.
“This is a major boost for regional WA, in particular towns like Onslow, South Hedland and Port Hedland with these projects to create and support a number of local jobs while strengthening and diversifying the WA economy,” Minister Carey stated.
The Ashburton North SIA land allocations are located 12 kilometres south of the Onslow town site in the Shire of Ashburton and are focused on the manufacturing of ammonia and methanol.
Proponents awarded land in the Ashburton SIA are Equus Energy (a subsidiary of Western Gas Corporation) and Fortescue Future Industries.
The Boodarie SIA has allocated land to five projects that will assist the production of green iron ore, ammonia, hydrogen, and lithium sulphate monohydrate. Proponents awarded land in the Boodarie SIA are POSCO, Fortescue Metals Group, Alinta Energy, Tees Valley Lithium, and BP.
