Liontown Resources Limited has granted Monadelphous Group Limited with vertically integrated wet plant Structural, Mechanical, Piping (SMP) and Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) contract for the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project.
According to Liontown, awarding the final construction contract is a critical milestone for the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project.
“I’m pleased to announce that we have awarded the SMP and E&I contract to Tier-1 contractor Monadelphous. Valued at approximately A$100 million this marks the final major construction contract to be awarded for Kathleen Valley,” Liontown Managing Director and CEO Tony Ottaviano said.
Combining the SMP and E&I work allows for vertical integration of the wet plant’s mechanical and electrical construction, creating efficiencies and bolstering confidence in the timeline for first production in mid-2024.
“The vertically integrated approach of combining the SMP and E&I packages enables Monadelphous to efficiently deliver both programs of work to a very high standard and played a large part in its successful tender,” Ottaviano stated.
The $100 million contract includes the installation of 1,200 tonnes of structural steel, 20,000m of piping, 600 mechanical equipment items, 200 platework items, the SAG mill, magnetics circuit, flotation circuit, tantalum recovery circuit, concentrate dewatering, and tails treatment.
The wet plant was constructed to a high specification using lessons gained from industry peers, with quality and hard-wearing components, such as polyurethane-lined steel piping and ceramic lined highwear areas, to minimise future maintenance requirements. Furthermore, the lessons learned will be implemented during the plant’s commissioning and ramp up.
The drawn-out appraisal and tendering procedure illustrates these critical path contracts’ importance in delivering the first production.
“We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this significant contract in the growing energy transition metals sector, and look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with Liontown Resources,” Monadelphous Managing Director Zoran Bebic said.
