The awards, which highlight the resource industry leaders in corporate social responsibility and environmental management, are divided into four categories, including: Excellence in Social Inclusion; Excellence in Supporting Communities; Excellence in Leadership – Women in Resources; and Environmental Excellence.

Minister Koutsantonis said the awards aim to set a benchmark for excellence in the resources sector as a major employer of South Australians – particularly in regional areas.

“These awards allow us to not just recognise resource companies’ efforts in employment but also recognise the key roles they play in other areas of the community. This includes addressing community wellbeing, employment training, economic disadvantage, social participation, employment for people with a disability, leadership opportunities for women and the continuous improvement of environmental sustainability,” he said.

“It is now more important than ever to recognise what resources companies give back to their communities given the sector is facing reckless political attacks as a result of the Liberal Party’s campaign against unconventional gas. Unlike the Liberal Party, this State Government will do all it can to stand up for this vital sector and ensure that current and future generations share in the economic and social opportunities generated by the industry.”

The 2015 Premier’s Community Excellence Awards in Mining and Energy are open to mineral and energy resource companies, extractive industries and companies involved in the delivery of services to those sectors which operate in South Australia.

A judging panel comprising representatives of community organisations, industry and government will assess the entries, with winners to be announced at the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy Annual Resources Industry Dinner on Monday, 13 April, 2015.

Nominations close on Monday, 2 March, 2015.
