Outstanding young producers recognised at the Queensland Agriculture Awards

The annual Queensland Agriculture Awards has recognised exceptional innovators and contributors in the fields of agriculture, fishery, and forestry.

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner announced that Jade King of Green Valley Fingerlimes had won the renowned Peter Kenny Medal, and Jessica Jurgens of Vee Jay’s Kalfresh had won the Minister’s Emerging Leader Award.

“Jade is well known in the industry for her passion for finger limes, one of Australia’s unique native fruits, while at just 24 years of age of age Jessica is a fifth-generation farmer, an inspiring leader and a true model,” Minister Furner said.

According to Minister Furner, the Queensland Agriculture Awards honour people who have made a significant positive effect on our industry.

“Nominations were sought from across the sector including agribusiness, education, farm-based production, the supply chain, research, advocacy, and associated fields. As always, I am very impressed with the calibre of the nominees and am very pleased to have the opportunity to recognise those who are making a difference through these awards,” Minister Furner added.

The Peter Kenny Medal and the Minister’s Emerging Leader award are part of the 2022 honours. Each category winner will receive a $3000 bursary to help with their education or career.

The Peter Kenny Medal recognises innovation that leads to profitability and sustainability, while the Minister’s Emerging Leader Award honours professional excellence and leadership.

Kenny is remembered as a dedicated advocate for agriculture, rural education, and regional communities throughout Queensland, as well as a proponent for educating future generations of farmers.

Minister Furner praised each of the nominees for their contributions to the advancement of Queensland’s agriculture and food industries, as well as their passion, advocacy, and dedication.

Finalists for the Peter Kenny Medal:
