The Succession Expo: Family, Farm, Finance, Future will be hosted by the East Gippsland Shire Council, and it will be held in Omeo on 14 February and in Buchan on 15 February.
Cultivate Farms founder Sam Marwood will be the keynote speaker and share new farming succession planning methods and community revitalisation methods.
According to the East Gippsland Shire Council, East Gippsland farmers have stated that succession is a critical area where assistance is required. Land holdings, corporate structures, retirement and pensions are all part of the succession process. It also necessitates painful discussions concerning the needs of family members.
Mayor Cr Mark Reeves welcomed the chance for farmers to learn about succession planning and how to solve common issues.
“Across rural East Gippsland, succession challenges and the high cost of getting started as a new farmer has seen many of our farming communities age and shrink. It can be tough to have succession conversations, but The Succession Expo will bring together the people and ideas we need to achieve the right outcomes for families and our communities,” Mayor Reeves said.
In addition to Marwood’s keynote address, the events will feature speakers on topics such as financial and legal considerations, wills and power of attorney, and pension matters, presented in collaboration with Rural Financial Counselling Service Gippsland, Gippsland Community Legal Service, ConnectWell, and Agriculture Victoria.
