Tivan Limited has announced its Board welcomed the Northern Territory Government’s recent announcement about the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct (MASDP).
According to Tivan, its Board agrees that MASDP is “one of the most exciting and significant sustainable economic developments in the nation” and will play a critical role in establishing long-term, highly skilled job opportunities for Territorians. Tivan’s baseline workforce plan accounts for roughly 1,500 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs during the project’s ultra-long life, contributing to the Territory’s long-term economic growth.
The Board sees the announcement as strongly supporting its earlier strategic decision to relocate the TIVAN Processing Facility to Darwin. At the time, the Board emphasised:
- The Australian Government has committed to investing at least $1.5 billion in common-use infrastructure as equity.
- Infrastructure Australia has identified MASDP as a nationally significant investment priority area.
- The Port of Darwin, the Darwin to Adelaide railway and freight terminal, Darwin Airport, and the current Darwin road network are all within close vicinity.
- Close proximity to key Asian export and investment markets
- Utility infrastructure is extensive, including gas and electricity.
- Access to large-scale water infrastructure, including shared facilities and non-aquifer-based water sources in a high rainfall zone
- Potential access to power from large-scale solar resources, as well as strong ties with essential players in the renewables industry
- Access to construction and operational workforces, including the potential to recruit for residential-based roles, and Tivan’s promotion of large-scale workplace practises as an employer of choice.
- Close proximity to Charles Darwin University, a higher institution avenue for education, recruiting and training
- Possibility of expediting environmental approval within the context of the Strategic Environmental Assessment
- Possibilities for commercial synergy with MASDP proponents
- The capacity to use earlier site and layout planning to accelerate project facilitation.
- Possibilities for further collaboration with the Northern Territory Government, as well as continued interaction with critical regulatory agencies and community-based stakeholders
- Possibilities to contribute to Darwin’s research and development centre, including mineral processing, renewable energy, and vanadium redox flow batteries.
Tivan’s substantial community involvement program in the Territory continues, including real, inclusive, and continuous collaboration with Larrakia Development Corporation. Tivan said it is continuing to collaborate closely with partners, including the Northern Territory Government, to continue project facilitation in line with the company-wide change completed in the first quarter.
Tivan has also increased its presence in Darwin, for example, by:
- Signing a Letter of Intent with Sun Cable to provide 200-300MW of dispatchable renewable energy to the TIVAN Processing Facility at MASDP.
- As one of just a few ASX-listed firms with a local headquarters, the company is relocating its corporate headquarters to Darwin.
- Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Charles Darwin University to expand collaboration avenues.
