Vale has inked a long-term supply deal with Tesla for the supply of low-carbon nickel.

According to the official announcement, Vale will supply Tesla with Class 1 nickel in the US from its Canadian operations which produce some of the lowest-carbon nickel in the world.

The company said the arrangement is in line with its aim of expanding its exposure to the electric vehicle industry by leveraging its low-carbon footprint and market-leading position as North America’s largest producer of finished nickel.

Vale is targeting 30% to 40% of Class 1 nickel sales in the fast-growing electric vehicle industry.
