The Victorian Government has granted 14 agriculture scholarships to encourage innovative initiatives and learning opportunities, while also welcoming new members to the Young Farmers Advisory Council at their inaugural meeting.

Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence announced recipients of the Upskill and Invest Young Farmers Scholarships, offering $5,000 for vying farmers to explore new learning opportunities and $5,000 for on-farm equipment technology upgrades or professional development.

“The young farmer programs reflect our desire to develop the next wave of agricultural professionals and we will continue to provide them with the tools they need to enhance their expertise,” Minister Spence said.

“These young Victorians are not only passionate about farming but also possess the skills and insights needed to drive positive change within the agriculture industry,” the Minister stated.

Since 2015, the State Government has given 117 Upskill and Invest Young Farmers scholarships to students who have shown drive and innovation.

Minister Spence also recognised the new Young Farmers Advisory Council members and the vital role they play in helping young people in agriculture, providing advice on issues affecting them, and serving as industry ambassadors.

The Young Farmers Advisory Council was formed in 2015 to provide strategic input on practical measures and opportunities to attract and retain young farmers. The Council also offers recommendations on agricultural projects and climate change, skills, and training decisions.
