Liontown Resources Limited has announced the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project has reached another significant milestone.

It comes as the Western Australian (WA) Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) approved the Mining Proposal and Mine Closure Plan for the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project.

The Mining Proposal approval, along with the associated but different Works Approval issued by the WA Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and other crucial permits already received, represents the final primary approvals required for the start of significant site works at Kathleen Valley.

According to Liontown’s development timeline, major site activities will now start, and construction is anticipated to pick up speed throughout the rest of 2022 and into 2023. The goal is to finish and commission everything by the end of Q2 2024.

Adertisement

One of the most significant new long-life lithium projects now under development anywhere in the globe is the Kathleen Valley Project. 500 ktpa of SC6.0 spodumene concentrate will be delivered to international markets as part of the initial 2.5 Mtpa project, with an anticipated increase to 4Mtpa/700ktpa of spodumene concentrates within six years.

This will position Liontown as a significant lithium producer, supplying spodumene concentrate, an essential component of the world’s fast-expanding lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle industries.

A group of Tier-1 offtake clients supporting the Kathleen Valley project includes LG Energy Solution, Tesla, and Ford.

Liontown’s Managing Director and CEO Tony Ottaviano said the Kathleen Valley Project had reached another significant milestone with its Mining Proposal and Works Approval.

“With all key enabling permits now in place, our development team can move ahead at full pace to begin major site construction activities. This is a very exciting time for everyone involved with the Company, and shareholders can look forward to steadily increasing news flow in the weeks and months ahead as we move into the full-scale commercial development phase,” Ottaviano stated.

Ottaviano expressed his gratitude towards the WA Government, especially the DMIRS and DWERS teams, for cooperating with Liontown to advance the process to enable the construction of the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project on schedule.

“The ongoing engagement and support of the Tjiwarl has been pivotal through these processes. We look forward to delivering a world-class project to world-class standards and creating significant value for all our key stakeholders,” Ottaviano added.
