Australia-based mineral exploration company West Wits Mining has commenced mining at Sol Plaatjies Project within the Soweto Cluster prospecting right area, Johannesburg, South Africa.
The company has completed pre-stripping over the last couple of weeks and expects to extract the first ore from the open pit within a few days.
West Wits Chairman Michael Quinert said the first stage provides for the removal of circa 130,000 tonnes of ore material over 12 months from the first two of five planned pits. According to him, indications are that at least another 50,000 further tones are available in the second stage.
“This is an important milestone for the Company on its path to monetise the significant gold resources at the Soweto Cluster,” Mr Quinert added.
“Sol Plaatjies is the first step, providing cash flow that will be applied to expedite out development plans for the whole tenement.”
