Wollongong Coal has announced the execution of a mining services agreement with Delta SBD for mine operation at its Wongawilli mine.
Under the agreement, Delta will provide technical expertise, personnel and equipment services at the mine, and will also manage day to day operations.
According to Wollongong Coal, the arrangement is for an interim period of around two years and covers the extraction of up to 1.45 Mt.
The company’s Operating Manager Rhys Brett said Wollongong will now focus on the future approvals and longer-term management and workplace arrangement at the mine.
“This is good news for workforce employed at the mine and also provides an impetus to leverage synergy from the two entities to deliver economic benefits to the Illawarra region,” Mr Brett said.
According to him, coal production at the Wongawilli mine will commence later this month, with first shipment expected in the current financial quarter.
