Thiess has announced that its Thiess Khishig Arvin (TKAJV) joint venture has won extra underground work at Rio Tinto’s Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in Mongolia’s southern Gobi Desert as part of a contract renewal.
According to the official announcement, the extension award recognizes Thiess’ capacity to provide long-term value to our clients through sustainable mining services across a wide range of services and commodities.
The extension overs the construction of a 6.4-kilometre concrete conveyor decline road, conveyor hanger, and change house, as part of the ongoing development at the mine.
Enkh-Amgalan Sengee, Thiess’ Mongolian Executive Director, said the contract was a testament to the team’s capacity to achieve excellence on the project, which Thiess has been working on with Khishig Arvin Industrial since 2016.
“We are proud to build on our safe and successful record of underground delivery for our client at Oyu Tolgoi, and to contribute to the growth of this world-class copper operation,” Amgaa said.
“We’re focused on developing our experienced and award-winning Mongolia-based team and maintaining our valuable work in the community, delivering health and education programs and community building initiatives.”
Oyu Tolgoi is one of the world’s greatest copper and gold deposits. It is also one of the world’s most advanced, safe, and long-term enterprises.
Rio approved development of the underground mine in 2016.
