ZEN Energy continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio with the signing of a 10-year deal with ACCIONA Energía.

In a statement, ZEN Energy said it would receive approximately 200,000 MWh of 100 per cent renewable energy annually through the 10-year agreement with ACCIONA Energía’s Waubra Wind Farm.

ZEN Energy stated that the agreement would aid the company’s continued growth and assist in fulfilling its mission to lead communities into a zero-carbon world and hasten Australia’s path to becoming a renewable energy superpower.

The Waubra Wind Farm, located northwest of Ballarat in Victoria, generates enough power to provide for 110,000 homes, with ZEN Energy accounting for 34 per cent of the total generation. Meanwhile, ACCIONA Energía has contributed approximately $10 million since the Waubra was completed in 2009.

Adertisement

ZEN Energy CEO Anthony Garnaut said ZEN Energy has just begun to contribute to the energy transition with the signing of the agreement with Waubra Wind Farm and the recent offtake from Tailem Bend 2 Solar Farm.

“We are focused on structuring our deals in an innovative and sustainable manner, that complements the needs of our customers and energy market participants. This is another industry-first deal structure for ZEN and we want to acknowledge the flexibility and creativity of the ACCIONA Energía team,” Garnaut stated.

ACCIONA Energía Director of Energy Markets and Policy Melanie Sutton said the company’s shared goal with ZEN Energy is to create a better world right away.

“We know that large-scale renewables can confidently supply the power required for commercial customers. Today is another example of how a major business can supply green renewable energy to reduce power bills,” Sutton added.

ZEN Energy announced an offtake deal with the soon-to-be operational Tailem Bend 2 Solar Farm in July, and with the addition of the Waubra Wind Farm, ZEN now sources renewable electricity from 17 different solar and wind assets across Australia.
