The Ville Resort-Casino, a significant Townsville icon, has signed a renewable energy deal with CleanCo to see the precinct powered by 100% renewable energy by 2025.

The project, announced by Minister Mick de Brenni at the Queensland Energy and Jobs Fair in Townsville, would be enabled under the Queensland Government‘s Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

“North Queensland has world-class renewable energy sources, and through publicly owned corporations like CleanCo, we are making those resources available to support our industries and communities to make the switch to renewable energy,” Minister de Brenni said.

According to Minister de Brenni, The Ville was the first client in Townsville to sign a CleanCo clean energy supply agreement, and with the rate at which renewables are coming online, there will be plenty more to come.

“The power will travel via the Queensland SuperGrid, the nation’s largest, that goes end to end of the state, meaning that wherever energy is generated–we can capture it, send it, or store it where it’s needed most,” Minister de Brenni added.

The Ville Resort-Casino CEO Michael Jones expressed The Ville’s excitement to partner with CleanCo as it expands its sustainable business practices.

“We’re committed to reducing our emissions and impact on the environment and by partnering with CleanCo now, we’ll be able to ensure The Ville is 100% powered by renewable sources by 2025,” Jones said.

Jones stated that by utilising sustainable business practices such as renewable energy, The Ville is assisting in protecting and preserving the environment for future generations.

“CleanCo’s portfolio has a unique mix of flexible, low-emission firming capability mixed with wind and solar generation, which allows us to offer reliable, competitively-priced clean energy to large-scale energy users,” CleanCo CEO Tom Metcalfe said.

Metcalfe stated that CleanCo’s portfolio of low-emission and renewable energy generators enables the company to provide reliable clean energy solutions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist its customers in prospering in a net zero future.

“We have a number of generating assets in north Queensland and I am proud that we are able to use these locally operated assets to provide locally sourced renewable energy for businesses like The Ville, as they pursue their sustainability goals,” Metcalfe added.

According to the State Government, the deal includes clean energy from the Kaban Green Power Hub, and delivery is now underway and will scale up to 100% renewable energy by 2025.
