Orica announced the commercial introduction of its WebGen™ 200 Surface.
According to Orica, the WebGen™ 200 Surface will alter how the industry blasts, more safe and efficient blasting, based on the success of over 5,000 WebGen™ 100 blasts worldwide, including over 150,000 primers.
Specially developed for surface mining applications, Orica said eliminating actual wired connections to a blast or within the blasthole opens up a new world of possibilities. Orica stated that WebGen™ 200 Surface enables companies to optimise their whole mining operation, from lowering exposure on the bench to geological hazards such as dust, operating adjacent to high walls, reducing vehicle interactions, and removing personnel from danger. The company added that WebGen™ 200 system revolutionises mine operations by enabling clients to operate during the lightning storm season or turning a loaded blast into a temporary haul road with the Mine Scheduling Flexibility.
“It is the culmination of years of research and development across technology, marketing, commercial, supply and manufacturing teams. We are pleased to announce that WebGen™ 200 Surface is now commercially available for our customers,” Orica Senior Manager WebGen™ Commercialisation Rhys Patterson said.
Furthermore, Orica claimed that the safe passage of mining equipment through loaded blastholes is now a reality by sustaining parallel mining, drilling, and loading activities, which can significantly increase the vertical advance of surface mines. Orica stated that WebGen™ could help avoid production delays caused by exclusion zones around loaded blast patterns during lightning storms.
Orica reported that underground customers worldwide began the shift to WebGen™ 200 Underground Pro, with Newmont Borden being the first to reap the benefits of this game-changing technology in late 2022. According to Orica, WebGen™ 200’s four variants have been engineered to ensure robust safety and reliability, with expanded capabilities, security, and versatility, ensuring it satisfies the harsh mining conditions faced by surface and underground customers.
The WebGen™ 200 Surface primer passed the testing program milestones at Moose Creek Quarry in North America, Karreman Quarries and TerraCom Limited Blair Athol Mine in Australia, and their partner customer mine in Northern Chile.
