AgForce held a meeting in Rockhampton last week to identify key agricultural issues the organisation will address in the coming years.

The meeting, attended by the AgForce Board and representatives from commodity boards, regional councils, Young Producers’ Council and policy committees, primarily focused on what cross-commodity areas of policy and advocacy would best support and deliver the greatest value to members.

The discussion was informed by the results of the member survey run in October 2022, along with the perspectives of the boards, councils and committees gathered before the meeting took place.

Priority issues covered during the discussion include improving biosecurity, which includes the management of diseases, pests and weeds.

Attendees also learned about trade and market access, specifically how AgForce can extend its reach further and communicate with more people.

Other areas of discussion include land use, workforce safety and retention, vegetation management reform, agribusiness environmental sustainability, and telecommunications access.

Following the meeting, AgForce will now work on ratifying the identified priorities by attendees, followed by an expression of interest process open to all members to populate the required policy committees that will help take the work forward.
