Transgrid has started recruiting for its 2024 Graduate Program, which offers a chance to learn from top energy specialists and contribute significantly to driving Australia’s transition to renewable energy.
Executive General Manager of People, Culture and Safety Jane Sherlock stated that there has never been a better moment to work in Australia’s energy industry and obtain vital information, skills, and experience that can help shape workers’ careers.
“We operate a 13,000km high-voltage electricity transmission network and 110 substations in NSW and the ACT, providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity to more than three million homes and businesses,” Sherlock said.
Sherlock claimed that Transgrid is also at the forefront of the energy shift, hastening the completion of nation-critical transmission projects required to supply affordable, clean, and reliable electricity to Australia’s eastern shore.
“Our EnergyConnect, HumeLink and VNI West projects will reshape the National Electricity Market, enabling the integration of renewables, reducing the nation’s carbon emissions and helping to drive down the cost of electricity,” she added.
Graduates enter a two-year immersion program that combines on-the-job learning with formal training as part of the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ program.
The program allows graduates to rotate through various jobs within the network, with 40 positions available in 2024.
“Graduates are supported each step of the way through a combination of training, on-the-job learning, regular check-ins and mentoring from experienced leaders, allowing them to gain the skills for an exciting career in energy,” Sherlock said.
Basma Daqaq joined Transgrid’s Graduate Program last year and has since worked on Australia’s largest transmission project, the $1.8 billion EnergyConnect interconnector in NSW.
“Project EnergyConnect is one of the biggest projects currently in Australia and you get to learn from everybody on site. There are always other members of the team on site to provide support and guidance,” Daqaq said.
Daqaq urged graduates to apply and become a part of the Transgrid team.
“You learn a lot and have the opportunity to work on different projects and areas and get a flavour of what your career path would look like and what you enjoy the most,” she added.
Engineering, construction, project management, business, finance, technology, communication, law, and political science graduates are invited to apply for the 2024 intake.
The program is part of Transgrid’s commitment to improving gender and cultural diversity, with an emphasis on building opportunities for female and Indigenous engineers.
