UGL to install 35-megawatt BESS for Alinta Energy

CIMIC Group has announced that UGL has been chosen by Alinta Energy to install a 35-megawatt one-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) facility in Port Hedland.

UGL will be in charge of the design, testing, and commissioning of the BESS at the Port Hedland Power Station, which comprises a battery storage and power conditioning system. UGL will also be in charge of extending the current high-voltage infrastructure in order to connect the BESS. 

“We are pleased to deliver our experience to this growth project – a major energy storage project in Port Hedland – for our client Alinta Energy. Projects in high-tech, energy transition and sustainable infrastructure are a key focus for our Group,” CIMIC Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said.

UGL Managing Director Doug Moss stated, “UGL is a market leader in the design, construction and operation of energy assets across Australia. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Alinta Energy to provide a safe and effective outcome for their Port Hedland project.”

UGL has begun work on the project, which is scheduled to be finished in late 2024.
