The deal will see Zenith install a 20 Megawatt diesel power station combined with a 6.7 Megawatt photovoltaic solar power station at the mine site.

Zenith Pacific will own, operate and maintain both the solar power station and the diesel power station, which will be dual fuel gas compatible.

According to the press release by Sirius, the solar station infrastructure will be built and installed with zero capital cost to the company and will provide over 3 million litres of diesel savings per year.

The new infrastructure will feature the highest efficiency PV panels available on the market, which will enable solar generation of about 12.5 million kilowatts per year.

The solar station is expected to be installed and commissioned within 20 months.

Sirius’ Managing Director Mark Bennett said the power solution will be delivered for a much lower cost than previously available and will provide the Nova nickel mine with tangible and substantial net cost savings.

“I am personally very proud to have the opportunity to apply renewable green technology at a mine site, using a proven system and at no capital cost,” Mr Bennett said.

“It shows that mining and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive concepts, and that it is possible to operate in a way which benefits our shareholders, other stakeholders and our planet.”
