Altech Batteries Limited unveiled the design for the CERENERGY® Sodium Alumina Solid State (SAS) 1 MWh GridPack (ABS1000) for the market for renewable energy and grid storage market.
A pre-installed option has been offered to reduce the on-site installation of ABS60 60KWh battery packs. Each GridPack has a separate rating of 600 volts DC and 100 Ah, and they can be connected in series to achieve the required rating of several thousand KWs for grid operation.
The Altech GridPacks have been designed expressly to meet the Ingress Protection (IP) 65 standard, providing total protection from dust and adverse weather. This means no additional shelters or structures are required to house the Altech GridPack batteries, and they may be put safely outdoors in any weather condition. The Altech GridPacks will be built in a sea container design, allowing for easy shipment by water or road to the installation location and ensuring straightforward installation.
According to Altech, GridPacks may be readily installed in remote areas thanks to the “plug and play” capability of the site installation. The containers are stackable, reducing the battery footprint. These GridPacks, unlike other massive battery pack designs, may be stacked on top of each other, making the GridPacks easily expandable and flexible to suit the site’s future energy needs.
Altech said its GridPacks are built without any moving parts, making them an excellent choice for noise-sensitive areas. They operate silently and have low maintenance expenses over the battery’s life.
The Altech 1 MWh GridPacks are designed to run in any climate without thermal control, providing significant benefits to the renewable energy and grid storage sectors. These larger battery packs can store more energy, allowing more efficient use of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
Altech believes that the suggested GridPacks are a great way to stabilise the grid by supplying backup power during peak demand periods or when renewable energy sources are not operating at capacity. They are also a low-cost option for storing and delivering renewable energy in various applications such as grid-scale storage, microgrids, and electric vehicle charging.
Furthermore, they are non-flammable and pose no fire or explosion risks, with a planned lifespan of more than 15 years and the ability to function in harsh cold and hot regions. Altech believes these GridPacks will be the preferred option for businesses looking for a dependable, long-term energy storage solution.
