Aston Minerals Limited has appointed new executives to support development efforts at the Edleston Project in Ontario, Canada.

According to the company, the team will also oversee the development and evolution of LionOre to a multi-jurisdiction mining operator, ultimately resulting from the takeover by Norilsk Nickel for $9.56 billion.

Aston selected Peter Breese, who previously served as the chief operating officer of LionOre, as executive chairman.

He brings several years of experience in developing large assets into producing mines to his new role.

The company also named Russel Bradford, who has executive-level operational experience across various mining companies as managing director.

Previously, Bradford worked as a consulting metallurgist at Asanko Gold and as project development general manager of Mantra Resources.

During his tenure at Asanko, he oversaw the acquisition of PMI Gold and the successful financing, construction and commissioning of the Asanko gold mine within budget and ahead of schedule.

Additionally, Aston selected Executive Mining Group Limited (EMG) to serve as the management team that will transform the Boomerang deposit from a mineral resource to a development project through the requisite metallurgical testing and study phases.

Previously, EMG supported the design, construction and commissioning of the Nkotmati nickel mine in South Africa and the Tati nickel mine in Botswana.

It also built one of Ghana’s leading gold mines, Asanko, having reworked the feasibility and arranged $248.75 million in debt financing and $301.25 million in equity.

The team specialises in the development of projects by driving sustainable value outcomes and implementing the full spectrum of business, operation systems and practices that create a high-performance mining company that delivers attractive returns for investors.

Effective immediately, Tolga Kumova and Rob Jewson have transitioned to non-executive director roles and Dale Ginn has resigned from the board but will continue to support the team in a consulting capacity.
