Monash University has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to establish the Australia-India Critical Minerals Research Hub to foster collaboration between researchers and industry leaders, focusing on critical aspects of mineral exploration, extraction, processing, and recycling.
The University has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and the International Centre for Excellence in Mining Safety and Automation (iCEM) to integrate Monash research and innovation into India’s mining and mineral development sector.
Monash University’s Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Susan Elliott AM said the partnerships will advance innovation and knowledge exchange between Australia and India for global benefit.
“These partnerships are another positive step towards international cooperation and sustainable developments in the critical minerals sector, increasing mining efficiency, enhancing capabilities in critical minerals, and reducing mining’s impact on climate change,” Professor Elliott stated.
“iCEM’s work in renewable energy and metals make it a natural partner for the research and innovation coming out of Monash University. Together we can enhance the growth of the mining sector, helping it to become more efficient, safe and sustainable,” she added.
The signed MoU documents were exchanged at a ceremony attended by Australian Minister for Education Jason Clare, Indian Minister for Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, Indian Secretary of Higher Education Shri K Sanjay Murthy IAS, and Australian High Commissioner to India H.E. Philip Green OAM.
