BlueScope Chairman John Bevan announced the appointment of soon-to-retire Sims Ltd Managing Director and CEO Alistair Field as a non-executive director to the BlueScope Board.
“The Directors and I are very pleased to welcome Alistair. He brings a wealth of heavy industry experience and operational expertise. This, coupled with his understanding of complex and large-scale capital projects, means he’s a very strong fit for our Board makeup,” Bevan said.
“Alistair has an international mindset and has worked extensively across geographies and cultures. This is exactly the right fit for BlueScope, a manufacturer operating across 16 countries,” he added.
Field will step down as CEO of Sims Ltd on 1 October 2023. He is a mechanical engineer with over 25 years of experience in mining, metals, and manufacturing, and has held top executive positions in North America, the Middle East, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. He has an MBA from Henley Business School in the United Kingdom.
Prior to his Sims’ position, Field was the Chief Operating Officer of Rio Tinto’s Alcan Bauxite and Alumina Division and previously oversaw Asciano’s Patrick Terminals and Logistics Division.
“I’m delighted to join the Board of BlueScope. I’ve had a high regard for BlueScope and its management team – thorough professionals in a challenging global steel marketplace,” Field said.
“I’m looking forward to making a contribution at Board level and ensuring I play my part in helping the Company on its ambitious growth path,” he added.
Field’s appointment will go into effect on 15 January 2024.
