Construction works have begun on the Glenrowan Solar Farm, which will provide enough energy to provide about 45,000 households, the Victorian Government announced.
The 102-megawatt (MW) Glenrowan Solar Farm is the first project to commence construction under the second Victorian Renewable Energy Target Auction (VRET2), and it will sustain 150 full-time jobs.
The State Government will propose six projects through VRET2 that will deliver 623 MW of new renewable production capacity and up to 365 MW and 600 megawatt-hours (MWh) of new battery energy storage.
“Our Victoria’s historic VRET2 auction is helping to supply all Victorian Government operations with 100 per cent clean renewable electricity by 2025 — and it will attract billions of dollars of investment into regional Victoria,” Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio said.
According to the Andrews Government, these will spur new investment and local job creation and contribute to our target of sourcing 100% renewable energy for all Victorian Government activities by 2025.
“This project is great for local jobs – it puts North East Victoria at the forefront of our renewable energy transition,” Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes stated.
The program is intended to support 920 direct jobs and attract $1.48 billion in new renewable energy project investment, with high local content criteria resulting in $1 billion spent in local supply chains throughout construction.
These projects are part of the State Government’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035, which will create 59,000 clean energy employment and contribute to the goal of net zero emissions by 2045.
“The Glenrowan Solar Farm will help power our transition to 95 per cent renewable electricity by 2035, while creating jobs across the North East,” Minister for Environment Ingrid Stitt added.
