Western Australia’s (WA) ability to help power the global energy transition is on display this week at AOG Energy 2023.

Speaking at the conference’s ceremonial opening, Deputy Premier Roger Cook described how the WA Government is investing in the State’s energy sector to capitalise on possibilities that arise as more countries shift to clean and renewable energy sources.

The Deputy Premier emphasised that the State is on the verge of becoming a new type of global energy superpower, with an unprecedented number of renewable energy and critical minerals proposals presently under environmental review and a considerable number of fresh referrals in the pipeline.

“Western Australia has enjoyed decades of strong economic growth thanks to our booming resources and export industry. With the right investment, WA is well placed to become a global clean energy producer and export leader,” Deputy Premier Cook said.

The McGowan Government is sponsoring this year’s event through the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation.

Through its sponsorship, the State Government has developed a new Aboriginal Capability Pavilion, allowing Aboriginal-owned firms to present their goods, ideas, innovations, and services to potential clients in the local and international energy sectors.

“I am proud to see that the sponsorship of the WA Government is supporting iniatives such as the new Aboriginal Capability Pavilion, which will provide 10 Aboriginal-owned businesses a platform and opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities to the energy supply chain,” Deputy Premier Cook stated.

The sponsorship of the event by the McGowan Government also helps to encourage the participation of local small and medium-sized businesses in significant energy projects, as well as opportunities for WA companies to participate in global supply chains.

The three-day conference and exhibition, which will take place in Perth from March 15 to 17, is expected to draw 6000 people from nearly 40 nations.

AOG Energy is Australia’s largest event of its kind in 2023, with delegations from the United Kingdom, Norway, and Timor Leste attending.

“As the largest event of its kind in Australia, there is no better home for AOG Energy than Perth,” Deputy Premier Cook said.
