Fortescue has announced the first shipment from its Iron Bridge operations to Vietnam, marking the Company’s first export of a high-grade magnetite product.

According to Fortescue, the announcement comes after the plant exceeded expectations with a first run grade of over 67% Fe earlier this year.

The company noted that Iron Bridge exemplifies its pioneering innovation. It is the first time the Company has generated a wet concentrate product, which is transported to Port Hedland through a 135-kilometre specialised slurry pipeline, where dewatering and materials processing take place to produce a high-quality magnetite product.

Fortescue Metals CEO Fiona Hick was at Port Hedland with Nyamal Traditional Custodians and executives from Fortescue’s Iron Bridge Joint Venture partner, Formosa, when the first consignment was loaded.

“Iron Bridge is a game changer for Fortescue and builds on our track record of safely and successfully developing and operating iron ore projects in the Pilbara,” Hick said.

“High grade magnetite product will play an important role in lowering emissions in the steel industry, and Fortescue is moving at pace to ensure we are at the forefront of developing green steel technologies,” Hick stated.

Iron Bridge is a joint venture between FMG Magnetite Pty Ltd and Formosa Steel IB Pty Ltd.
