The FutureBeef program has been extended for another four years, ensuring that the northern Australian beef sector continues receiving the assistance it requires to provide high-quality, sustainably produced products to customers worldwide.

The $3.66 million program is a collaboration between Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia governments, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), and the Australian Government via the MLA Donor Company.

“The Northern Territory Government understands the importance of collaborating with other jurisdictions to ensure we make the most of one of our country’s most important assets — our northern Australian beef industry,” Northern Territory Minister for Agribusiness and Fisheries Paul Kirby said.

According to the Queensland Government, FutureBeef is a one-stop shop offering beef producers the knowledge they need to increase their operations’ resilience, profitability, and sustainability. It is backed by world-class research and development.

Adertisement

“FutureBeef is a great example of government and industry working together to provide real benefits to the northern Australian beef industry, which continues to position our beef products favourable with consumers here and overseas,” Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner commented.

The program promotes events and creates webinars, case studies, videos, social media, e-bulletins, and web content to help graziers with:

  • Animal production, health and welfare
  • Grazing land management
  • Business management
  • Research and development

“The FutureBeef portal has proven to be a valuable tool for Western Australian pastoralists to access relevant, timely and practical information and advice to optimise production and business profitability and sustainability,” Western Australian Minister for Agriculture and Food Jackie Jarvis said.

According to Minister Jarvis, WA’s Northern Beef Development Project contributes to the platform regularly, sharing insights from various on-ground research and development.

MLA managing director Jason Strong stated, “FutureBeef has a track record of a success delivering practical outcomes for northern graziers, building on years of research and extension work through northern Australia in everything from reproduction and generics to land management and sustainability.”
