Synergy has awarded GenusPlus Group a contract for Kwinana Battery Stage Two, covering civil and electrical plant works, installation, and commissioning of 300 battery container units and 72 inverters.

Kwinana Battery Stage Two is set to become Western Australia’s largest grid-connected battery, providing 200 megawatts of power and 800 megawatt hours of energy storage.

The project is anticipated to generate 160 jobs during its peak construction phase, with an estimated completion date of late 2024.

Synergy Chief Executive Officer David Fyfe stated that GenusPlus Group was a critical subcontractor in the successful delivery of WA’s first utility-scale battery.

Adertisement

Fyfe reported that the Kwinana Battery Stage One, completed earlier this year, is already providing stability to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) by absorbing excess solar power during the day and releasing it in the evening.

“The Synergy team welcomes the opportunity to again partner with GenusPlus Group to deliver another important project in WA’s decarbonisation journey,” he added.

The WA Government has invested $625 million in the Kwinana Battery Stage Two as part of the Energy Transformation Strategy.
