With a delegation led by Minister for Agribusiness and Fisheries Paul Kirby, the Northern Territory Government will expand its agricultural links and labour connections in Indonesia.
Minister Kirby said with global travel returning, the State Government must re-establish partnerships with countries in our region. Minister Kirby added that overseas workers could make a living in our wonderful corner of the globe by working in the Territory.
The team will also attempt to improve its understanding of biosecurity with Indonesia and hold a biosecurity roundtable with industry and government on Thursday, 8 December.
“With the threat of Foot and Mouth and other diseases on our doorstop we can share our knowledge and work to prevent these diseases entering the Territory, to ensure migration between our countries leaves a positive mark on our biosecurity front,” Minister Kirby stated.
The three-day trip will also include bilateral government and industry interaction to enhance established trade connections, as well as efforts to increase workforce attractiveness and promote cross-cultural knowledge and engagement between the Territory and Indonesia.
The delegation will also meet with Indonesian pastoral studies students who spent 10 weeks learning about biosecurity measures from personnel at the Department of Industry, Tourism, and Trade as part of the Indonesia Northern Territory Biosecurity Partnership, which aims to transfer biosecurity information.
Yudistira Adipratama, the Northern Territory’s Representative in Indonesia, will also join the trip.
Adipratama will advise the Territory business delegation on engagement, business, trade, and investment prospects with Indonesia.
The delegation follows the Australia Indonesia Business Council meeting in Darwin last month, which drew over 250 Australian and Indonesian business executives and government leaders to learn about trade and investment prospects in Indonesia.
